HOCKLEY, Frederick.

HOCKLEY, Frederick. Occult Spells. A Nineteenth-Century Grimoire. Edited with an Introduction by Silens Manus.
York Beach: The Teitan Press, 2009. First Edition. Publisher’s “Out of Series” Archive Copy.
Description: A superb, collector-grade archive copy of this foundational work in the Teitan Press Hockley series. While the trade edition was limited to 500 numbered copies, this volume is an “Out of Series” (OOS) copy, likely held for internal use or review.
The work serves as a personal commonplace book for Frederick Hockley (1808–1885), the legendary scryer and manuscript collector. It features a curated collection of spells, talismans, and charms drawn from rare sources like Saunders’ Physiognomie and the Petit Albert.
Condition: Mint / Fine. Note: No dust jacket issued for this specific archive copy. The book is in pristine, “as-new” condition. The dark blue cloth is vibrant and clean, with the intricate gold-stamped triptych sigil on the front board and gilt spine lettering exceptionally bright and untarnished. Internally fresh and untouched.
Pagination: xvi (Introduction) + 71 pages (Typeset Transcription) + 118 pages (Full-colour Manuscript Facsimile).
Format: Small Quarto (approx. 9.25″ x 6.25″). Bound in publisher’s navy blue cloth with gilt-stamped decorative boards and blind-ruled borders.
Key Note on the Jacket
Research indicates that while some trade copies of Teitan books had jackets, many archive/OOS copies and even certain runs of the standard edition were released “as issued” without a jacket to showcase the gold-stamped cloth. Given this is a mint office copy, it was likely never intended to have one.
