Jan Fries
Mandrake of Oxford, 2003 — Hardback Proof-Cover Variant
A scarce hardback copy of Jan Fries’ Cauldron of the Gods: A Manual of Celtic Magick, here offered in an early Mandrake proof-cover variant.
Although this copy carries the same ISBN as the standard hardback edition, the case-laminate cover is completely different from the final published cover. This black cover design, with red title lettering and a monochrome standing-stone image, was an early proof-cover design and was not retained for the regular retail edition.
This makes the copy of particular interest to collectors of Jan Fries, Mandrake of Oxford publications, Celtic magic, British occult publishing, and modern pagan esoteric literature.
Cauldron of the Gods is Jan Fries’ exploration of Celtic magic, prehistoric religion, ritual imagination, sacred landscapes, mythic memory, and the living presence of the old gods. Written in Fries’ distinctive, practical, and visionary style, the book combines magical instruction, folklore, history, personal observation, and original illustration.
